Timna Burston, Co-Founder & Creative Co-Director
Timna Burston is a visual artist and educator. She grew up in Jerusalem, where she painted and taught Art and Art History. Born in Israel to American immigrants, she began her art studies at an early age and is a graduate of the Charles E. Smith School for the Arts in Jerusalem. During her time there, she took part in community arts projects at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem and a local opera camp. She later joined a year-long social leadership program, followed by service in the Israel Defense Forces. She received two commendations for excellence in her military service. Shortly after she was discharged from the army, she began working as a website Staff Writer for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. Shortly thereafter, she began her studies at Hebrew University in Jerusalem for a B.A. in Art History and a teaching certificate in Art and Art History. During her studies, she received the Zehava and Eliyahu Eilat Fund prize for excellence in the field of Art History. As a student, she also served as a docent at an international art fair focusing on Jewish and Israeli art. In the summers of 2010 and 2011, Timna served as the Lead Community Educator at BIMA (a summer high school program for integrating the arts and Judaism at Brandeis University). Timna recently moved to New York and works as Youth Director of Congregation Kol Ami and is studying for an M.A. in Arts Education at Columbia University.
Jonah Rank, Co-Founder & Creative Co-Director
Jonah Rank grew up in New Jersey and New York (2 out of 3 tri-states!) in a family of observant Conservative Jews. In college, Jonah earned a B.A. in Music at Columbia University, and another B.A. (Cum Laude, with honors) in Jewish Music at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Jonah is a multi-instrumentalist musician whose career has ranged from recording instrumental music for film, producing a pop/hip-hop album for Ghanaian poet/singer Osekre, and writing and performing on several comedy-pop albums of his own. Aside from his music career, Jonah works in various capacities as a Jewish educator and religious leader: such as student Rabbi of Congregation Sons of Israel in Amsterdam NY, privately tutoring students in Jewish subjects, and facilitating programming as a Community Educator at BIMA at Brandeis the past few years. In his free time, Jonah is a vegetarian, a passionate lover of chocolate, and a rabbinical student at the Jewish Theological Seminary.
